カフェを求めて、東京から世界まで。 【京都】老舗喫茶店〈Salon de the FRANCOIS〉へ。イタリアンバロック様式の美しい店内にうっとり。／Alice in Cafeland LEARN 2020.08.21

昭和9年から続く京都の老舗〈フランソア喫茶室〉へ。京都に来たら、絶対行こうと決めていたお店です。

I went to Salon de thé François in Kyoto. They opened in 1934 and it has been an iconic cafe in Kyoto ever since. I had been planning to go there for a long time.

実はここ、日本で初めて国の有形文化財に指定された喫茶店なんです。豪華客船のホールをイメージした建物は、イタリアンバロック様式。天井のアーチが美しいですね。

This was the first cafe to be recorded as a National Heritage Site. The decor is Italian baroque style and the inspiration of this design comes from luxury cruise ships. The arch of the ceiling is so beautiful.

「わたしの父はもともと絵描き志望だったので、絵画の収集をしていました。フランソワという店名も、父の好きだったフランスの画家フランソワ・ミレーからとっているんですよ」と現オーナーの今井香子さん。

The current owner, Ms. Kyoko Imai said, “My father wanted to be an artist. So he collected paintings. The name of the cafe comes from Jean-François Millet, who was my father’s favorite French artist”.

京都の喫茶店といえば、玉子サンドイッチ。ゆで卵をマヨで和えたものではなく、玉子焼きを挟むのが関西流。お供にはウィンナーコーヒー。

When you talk about Kyoto cafe food, you have to mention egg sandwiches. Instead of boiled eggs with mayonnaise, they use omelettes, which is a popular style in Kansai. I also ordered Vienna coffee on the side.

ステンドグラスから光が差し込む特等席で、いただきま〜す。じゅわっと広がるバターの香りがたまりません。

I enjoyed the smell of rich butter during my meal. This is my favorite seat because sunlight filters through the stained glass.

一番人気はブルーベリーソースが添えられたレアチーズケーキ。舌にまとわりつくようなこっくりとした濃厚さが絶品です。

Their most popular item is rare cheesecake with blueberry sauce. The exquisite cheese is so thick and creamy that it sticks to your tongue.

喫茶室の隣には昨年〈フランソア洋菓子店〉ができて、奥の工房で毎日つくっているフランソアの手作りケーキをお持ち帰りできるようになりました。きっとお持たせにも喜ばれるはず。

Last year they opened a patisserie next door, where they bake cakes fresh every morning. You can order cakes to go, so they make great gifts.
