TOKYOを飛び出し、2泊3日の旅へ出かけました。東京駅から電車で約2時間半、向かったのは日本第二の大都市「大阪」。

I went on a trip for two nights and three days. It took about 2 and a half hours by train from Tokyo Station to get to Osaka, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan.

大阪で一番有名な喫茶店といえば、やっぱりここ〈純喫茶アメリカン〉ではないでしょうか？雑誌や本で見ていた憧れのお店、ついにやってきました。ワクワク！

When you think of the most famous cafe in Osaka, it has to be Cafe American, doesn't it? I had dreamed of going there ever since I saw the cafe in magazines and books. I'm excited!

吹き抜け2階建ての店内には、大きなシャンデリアや螺旋階段が。これぞ昭和レトロモダン！な建物は、大阪市主催の「生きた建築ミュージアム」に何度も選出されています。

The cafe has two floors with a spiral staircase and a big chandelier in an atrium. It's very Showa Era retro. The design has won the Living Architecture Award several times.

お店の方いわく、終戦の翌年に開業したときの店名は「アメリカン」ではなく「花月」だったそう。今は移転しましたが、最初のお店がグランド花月の前にあったことが由来だったそう。ちなみに「アメリカン」の由来は電話帳で調べたときに最初に見つかるから、だそうです。

According to a server, when the American first opened, it was called "Kagetsu" because they were located in front of a famous building named the Grand Kagetsu. Incidentally, the name "American" was used because it would appear first in the phonebook.

天井まであるガラス窓のおかげで、2階席はかなり開放的な雰囲気。窓の外に視線をやると、賑やかな千日前商店街が。そのミスマッチ感だって大阪っぽくて楽しい！

Thanks to the floor to ceiling windows, the upper level seats have a wonderfully open-air feeling. The windows overlook the bustling Sennichimae Shopping Street, so you know you are definitely in Osaka.

さーて、何をいただこうかしら？えんじ色に星柄のメニュー表まで可愛い。

So, what should I get? Even the crimson red, star-studded menu is cute.

看板メニューの「プリンファッション」は、いろんな果物が一度に楽しめるのが嬉しい。グレープフルーツ、みかん、スイカ、メロン、さくらんぼ、いちご、りんご、パイナップルと一年を通して果物のラインナップを同じにしているそう。

Their signature item is called "Pudding Fashion". It has grapefruit, mikan, watermelon, cherry, strawberry, apple and pineapple. You can enjoy many kinds of fruits at the same time.

「プリンもあんこも白玉も、お店で出すものはできる限り手作りにこだわっています」と店員さん。固めでこっくりした昔ながらのプリンが美味しかったです。

Pudding, sweet red bean paste, mochi, They try to hand make as many things as possible. Their pudding has been well known for a long time for its firm texture. Very tasty！
