銀座の古い雑居ビル、その屋上には私の大好きなカフェバー〈月光荘サロン月のはなれ〉があります。何段あるんだろう？数えたこともないけど、最上階の5階を目指します。

On the roof of an old building in Ginza is my favorite café-bar, Tsuki no Hanare. I wonder how many levels there are in total. I've never counted them. I will go to the fifth floor, the top floor.

エレベーターがないので、階段をあがっていくと…あと23段！階段の途中で手書きのメッセージが励ましてくれます。

There was no elevator, so we took the stairs... 23 more steps! A handwritten message encourages you on the way to the stairs.

あっという間に到着！階段を上がりきると、緑でいっぱいのガーデンテラスが出現。半分は店内、半分は青空を望めるテラスという屋上カフェは、ジブリ映画に出てくるナウシカの秘密の庭のよう。

It arrived in no time. After climbing up the stairs, a garden terrace filled with greenery appears. The rooftop café, half inside and half on the terrace overlooking the blue sky, is like Nausicaa's secret garden in a Ghibli movie.

実はここ、カフェができる前は約100年以上続く〈月光荘画材店〉の倉庫でした。同時に与謝野晶子や芥川龍之介など、有名な文化人が集まっていたサロンでもありました。現在は店内で画材道具のレンタルができたり、日替わりで生演奏があったりと、今でもアートと音楽を楽しめるようになっています。

Before the café was built, this place was the warehouse of Gekkoso, an art supply store that has been around for over 100 years. At the same time, it was also a salon where famous cultural figures such as Akiko Yosano and Ryunosuke Akutagawa gathered. Today, you can still enjoy art and music in the store, with art tools available for rent and a band playing.

朝は7時からやっている日もあります。朝の太陽やお昼の青空、夜は星空を仰ぎながら生演奏なんて、想像しただけで最高でしょ？

Some days they are open from 7:00 in the morning. You can enjoy the sun in the morning, the blue sky in the afternoon, and the stars at night while listening to a live band.

食事のメニューは、日本では珍しいアメリカ南部のクレオール料理がメイン。夏のおすすめは、トムヤムそうめん。トマトたっぷりのトムヤムスープに、自家製の鶏ハムと、パクチー、ディル、ミントなどの爽やかなハーブが入って夏らしい美味しさ。ミントの香るモヒートと一緒に頂きました。

The main meal menu is Creole cuisine from the American South, which is rare in Japan. For summer, I recommend Tom Yum Cold Noodles. Tom Yum soup with tomatoes, homemade chicken ham and refreshing herbs such as pak choi, dill and mint for a summery taste. I had it with a mint-scented mojito.

デザートには、月のレモンケーキ。レモンを丸ごと練り込んだ三日月型のケーキには、その時々で変わる自家製ソースを。この日はキウイ、白ワイン、カルダモンのソースでした。

For dessert, moon lemon cake. The crescent-shaped cake with lemon comes with a homemade sauce that changes from time to time. On this day, it was kiwi, white wine, and cardamom sauce.

きっと銀座中を探しても、ここより時間がゆっくり流れている場所はないはず。夏の夜をとびきりロマンチックに過ごすなら、間違いなしの穴場です。

I'm sure that no matter where you look in Ginza, you won't find a place where time flows more slowly than here. If you want to spend an extremely romantic summer night, this is definitely the place to go.
