モデル・斉藤アリスが英語と日本語で東京を案内！ Alice’s TOKYO Walk vol.1〈onnellinen〉at Kiyosumi-Shirakawa LEARN 2017.10.29
「あれ？こんなお店あったっけ？」 馴染みのエリアから少し足を伸ばせば、そこには私の知らないTOKYOがたくさん。そんなまだ見ぬTOKYOとの出会いを求めて、お散歩へ出かけました。今回の街は新しいカルチャーの発信地として注目を集める東京の下町「清澄白河」。海外の人も増えてきたので、英語でもご紹介します。
"Oh...I never knew there was a place like this!"
If I go a little farther from my favorite areas, there is so much more TOKYO that I haven't yet found. So, I go out in search of new discoveries. This time I went to Kiyosumi-Shirakaw where an old part of town attracts attention as one of the most trendsetting areas of a new culture.
ショーウィンドウ越しに目に入ってきたのは、色とりどりの毛糸玉。暖かい色味から寒色系まで、お行儀よく棚に積まれていました。たくさんの色が並んでいるだけで、どうしてこんなにウキウキしちゃうんだろう？ きっと女の子の色へのトキメキって、色鉛筆のパレットに夢中になった子供の時代からずっと変わらないもの。
I find colorful balls of yarn through the window. On the shelves, there is a wide range of colors from warm to cool.
気になってお店の外から眺めていると「人によって目に留まるものがずいぶん違うみたいで、色々置いているんですよ」とオーナーの瀬良田さんが話しかけてくれました。岐阜県でお店をスタートして、清澄白河に移ってからは９年目になるそうです。
"Different things catch different people's attention. So, I offer a variety of items",
a woman tells me while I am gazing at the store from the street. Ms. Selada, who is the owner, started her select shop in Gifu Prefecture, and this will be the ninth year since relocating to this town.
ふと手にしたのは「ISAGER（イサガー）」というデンマーク産のシルクモヘア。わっ…や、やわらかい。軽くてしっとりと手に吸い付くような感触に感動。これで編んだセーターはきっととてつもなく気持ちいいんだろうなぁ。
I grab a ball of yarn made of silk mohair by 'ISAGER' from Denmark. ...How very soft! It's light and smooth to the touch. A sweater made of this material must surely be comfortable.
店内には瀬良田さんが作ったセーターやマフラーのサンプルがいくつも飾ってありました。「初めての方にはキットもありますよ。サンプルで実際の編地の風合いを確かめながら選んでくださいね」と瀬良田さん。実物があるとつくりたいもののイメージが湧きやすくて嬉しい。
There are a lot of samples of knitted work, made by Ms. Selada herself, displayed around the shop. She said "If you are just starting to learn, we carry kits of the samples. Feel free to touch and check out the texture for yourself."
さっきの毛糸玉を使って編んだマフラーのサンプルを発見。シルクモヘアで編んだマフラーってこんなに柔らかいんだぁ！ やっぱり全然違いました。すごくしっとりしているから、首回りのチクチク感とかが全然ないんです。このサンプル、買います！（笑）
I happened upon a scarf made of the silk mohair from earlier. As I thought, it is incredibly comfy and not prickly at all.
編み物グッズ以外にも、瀬良田さんが世界中から取り寄せている雑貨を販売しています。私が気になったのは、このつるんとした北欧の食器と丸っこいミニブラシ。可愛くないですか？ じーっと見つめていたら、だんだんなんかのゆるキャラに見えてきました。
There are also various other goods gathered from around the world. I like the pottery and the small, round brushes. Aren't they so cute?
お手紙を書くのが大好きな私、棚に並ぶ絵葉書も気になります。お気に入りの一枚がこちら。よーく見るといろんな色のボタン（？）が集まっているようなイラストなの。ほっこりする優しい色使いが好きだな。
Since I like to write letters, I decided to pick up this postcard. If you look closely, it appears to be a picture of many colorful buttons. I love the harmonious and tender colors.
最後に「初心者がマフラーを編むのにどれくらい時間がかかりますか？」と聞いたら、「半日で編み上げる方もいれば１ヶ月かかる方もいて、人それぞれですよ」と瀬良田さん。まだ一ヶ月以上あるから、今から始めればクリスマスには間に合いそう。私も編み物はじめてみようかな？
At last, I asked Ms. Selada "How long does it take to make one scarf for a beginner?". She answered "Some can finish in half a day, some spend a month. It depends on the person". Maybe I will give it a try someday.
