日本最古の湯として知られる島根県の〈玉造温泉〉へ行ってきました。松江の街は紅葉シーズン真っ只中。力強く色づいた木々が街を彩り、ますます旅が楽しい季節です。

Tamatsukuri Onsen located in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture is known as the oldest hot spring in Japan. I went there in the midst of the fall color season. The town was decorated with colorful autumn leaves, which makes you feel like going on a trip.

松江に来た人が必ずと言っていいほど訪れるのが松江城。カーキの石垣とブラックのボディがかっこいい。私のおすすめしたい〈亀田山喫茶室〉は、なんとこのお城の敷地内にあるんです。

Matsue Castle is a must visit for anyone who comes to Matsue. Its khaki stone walls and black body are cool. My favorite cafe Kamedayama Tea Room is located on the castle premises.

カフェがあるのは城郭の門を入ってすぐの迎賓館〈興雲閣〉の1階。天皇の滞在のために建てられたミントグリーンの洋館で、ブラックなお城とのコントラストが意外にも映えてます。

The cafe is located on the first floor of the guesthouse "Kounkaku", just inside the gate of the castle. It is a mint green Western-style building built for the Emperor's stay, and the contrast with the black castle is surprisingly striking.

高い天井から日光が差し込み、クラシック音楽が静かに流れる店内。シンプルながら趣があって、のんびりと過ごせます。

In the cafe, sunlight pours in through the high ceilings and classical music plays quietly. It is a simple yet elegant place to spend a relaxing time.

モーニング限定「フレンチトースト」は朝10時半までの人気メニュー。アパレイユに一晩つけこんだ厚切りパンはふわふわ食感で、ほんのりオレンジが香ります。お好みでメープルシロップとシナモンをかけて。

French toast is available only in the morning time until 10:30 am. The thick slices of bread soaked in appareil overnight are fluffy and have a slight orange flavor. You can add maple syrup or cinnamon powder as you like.

暖かい日はテラス席でのんびりと過ごすのもあり。城郭内の建物や風景を眺めながら、旅の途中に一休みするのに最適です。

I recommend the terrace seats in warm weather. It's the perfect place to take a break during your journey to view the buildings and scenery of the castle.

ちなみに〈興雲閣〉の内部は入館無料。赤絨毯の敷かれた階段や2階のバルコニーなど、インテリアもすごく素敵でした。こちらも覗いてみてくださいね。

By the way, Kounkaku is free admission. The building decor like stairs with red carpet and balcony is very fancy. Be sure to visit there when you're in the town.
